Happy Christmas from Big Vern n the Shootahs

We’ve updated our diary to let you know were we will be this forthcoming festive season, shows in Hamilton, Greenock, Glasgow (The Ferry), Aberdeen and finishing in Largs.  It’ll be a bit hot and sweaty, but we hope you’ll be able to join us, Big Vern boys xx

Big Vern n the Shootahs have just returned to Scotland after a stunning road-trip across the world to perform at the Great British Ball, held in the Shangri-la Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This event had a ‘Casino Royale 007 theme’ and the 700 guests at this sold out party were treated to the band on top form, playing to a rammed full dancefloor for two hours.

The boys were flown from Glasgow to Kuala Lumpur with Emirates airlines and the entire trip was co-ordinated by the GBB committee and the band to ensure everything was in perfect place; instruments, PA system, monitor engineers, lighting techs and nine dry cleaned Big Vern blue suits!!!!!

Needless to say, the mainly expatriate crowd had never seen anything quite like Big Vern n the Shootahs on TOP form, with the band delivering song after song which had the entire dancefloor filled from first song till last.  Its a simple philosphy that the band employs; party classics played well, with kicking horns, perfect backing vocals  and a driving rhythm section. No backing tracks, no tricks, no sequencers, simply nine guys singing and playing completely live with some cool choreography to boot. Cool, soulful and funky.  Just perfect for any party……………

The boys are besides themselves in anticipation of the world famous (in Lanarkshire) annual Ladies Night at Hamilton Park Racecourse, Saturday 30th July.  This is one event where the Big Vern shades definitely help the boys from being distracted by such a gorgeous audience.

We plan to make it one of the highlights of the year, with a raucous set guaranteed to get everyone dancing.  Bring your comfy stilettoes ladies.

Big Vern n the Shootahs are delighted to be performing at the Old Fruitmarket, Candelriggs, Glasgow on Friday 10th June 2011.  This is a show organised by one of our favourite charities, HEARTS AND BALLS.
Big Vern fan and patron of Hearts and Balls West is Jim H Taylor.  Jim suffered a catastrophic injury playing rugby in 1978 and has been in a wheelchair ever since.  Every year we hear of stories of young people and not so young people playing sport, but suffering horrific and potentially life threatening injuries.  Hearts and Balls is a scottish registered charity raising much needed funds to pay for some of the simpler things to make life a little easier for those who have suffered catastrophic injury.  check out www.heartsandballs.org.uk for more information. The event in the Old Fruitmarket also features some stars from Scottish Sport and the fantastic John Beattie band playing a set. For the very first time, Big Vern’n'the Shootahs are to play special surprise gig in Coatbridge! As a smaller, more intimate venue, the boys will be playing all your favourites as well as debuting some fantastic new songs.

This brilliant venue, upstairs from the main bar, has a capacity of around 150, so make sure you get there early, or buy your tickets in advance.

Saturdays are always packed at Big Owen’s, and Big Vern fully intend to raise the roof! Make sure you wear your dancing shoes.

There’s very little Big Vern’n'the Shootahs enjoy more than playing to 500 beautiful and powerful women, especially in the name of such a very worthy charitable cause.

Hosted by Fred MacAuley, the 11th Action for Children event was positively bursting with entertainment goodness, including 80′s star Alison Moyet, seen here, who’s voice was as stunningly evocative as ever.  With such a packed bill, Big Vern were again honoured to be closing the show with a scintillating set, that had the dancefloor filled within the first four bars.

Our next big gig will be our “homecoming” concert at The Ferry on Saturday 30th April, in Glasgow, where Big Vern’n'the Shootahs hold the record for the greatest number of tickets sold in the venue’s history!

The band had a fantastic night, playing this year’s Marie Curie Great Daffodil Ball.  We’re sure no-one has failed to notice the daffodil lapel badges being sold in every shop on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care.  We are very proud to be associated with this very worthy cause, and worthwhile fundraising event.

The annual Charity Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care – which is well established as one of Glasgow’s biggest and glitziest annual charity balls – was hosted by BBC’s Bryan Burnett.

A fantastic array of ball gowns and dinner suits were on show, at this James Bond themed event.  As ever, the evening offered outstanding entertainment to the 400 guests, including of course Scotland’s favourite soul band, Big Vern ‘n’ the Shootahs.

Beauty queen Nieve Jennings brought a touch of 007 glamour to Glasgow as she struck a pose outside the city’s Marie Curie Hospice.

After a short break, the band returned in spectacular style at the 11th Sparkle Ball at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow.   Held in aid of KIND (Scotland), a fabulous organisation, which works tirelessly to help disadvantaged children in Scotland.

As ever, the hardest working, most exciting, soul band in the country pulled off an outstanding performance in front of some 500 attendees, who filled the dancefloor for the full 90 minute set.

Big Vern n the Shootahs are delighted to announce that we have a NEW public show at The Ferry, Clyde Place, Glasgow on SATURDAY 30th APRIL 2011.

Since the band formed in 1989, Big Vern have a long reputation etched into the very fabric of the Ferry.

In the 1990’s, Big Vern n the Shootahs at The Ferry had the envious reputation of being the number three gig in Glasgow, second only to Prince and Michael Jackson (Copyright Billy Sloan) and Big Vern still hold the record for the most tickets sold for ANY show on the Ferry.

After a gap of way way too long, Big Vern n the Shootahs are back on the Ferry stage and we are absolutely delighted to return to our spiritual home in Glasgow.  Anyone who knows our history will know that The Ferry is a very special place for the band and some of our finest performances have been on board this converted car ferry parked on the banks of the Clyde!

As a band, we are genuinely thrilled at the thought of playing a home show after a long gap and we’ve started rehearsing some new tunes and old favourites to ensure this will be a night to remember.
